ATenergy was the first company to approach the Lebanese government concerning exploration in the East Mediterranean. In 1999 we met with the Minister of Petroleum and, with Spectrum, negotiated the first contract to acquire 3,000km of 2D seismic in international waters. This was followed by the 2,000km survey in territorial waters in 2002.

During 2001 – 2002, ATenergy presented recommendations and guidelines for the Lebanese government to prepare for an exploration licensing round in the offshore area. We also organised the study of the international boundaries and supervised an exploration and prospectivity study of the offshore area. During the last three years Lebanon has undertaken further studies – an announcement on legislation and licensing is eagerly awaited.
